Nepal education system policy reforms

The Nepalese government has initiated systemic educational reforms to modernize its legislative framework and address sector disputes. The government approved the 10th amendment to the Education Regulations, transitioning from a four-tier school structure to a two-tier model consisting of Basic Education (grades 1-8) and Secondary Education (grades 9-12). This change aims to align the legal system with the 2015 Constitution and streamline teacher management and local government resource allocation.

Parallel to these structural changes, the Ministry of Education and Sports is working to resolve long-standing protests and hunger strikes within the medical and education sectors. Recent developments include an agreement to end hunger strikes by Dr. Govinda KC and Dilli Harijan, alongside plans to establish a teaching hospital at Martyr Dasharath Chand University of Health Sciences. The ministry is also drafting a new Education Act and developing regulations for foreign educational programs, consultancies, and language training.
