Nepal Telecom network expansion and service updates
Overview
Nepal Telecom has initiated several projects to expand and modernize its mobile network infrastructure. Initially, the company activated 13 new mobile sites across 11 districts, including Bagmati, Gandaki, Lumbini, Karnali, and Sudurpashchim, to improve 2G and 4G coverage. The operator stated an intention to achieve nationwide 4G coverage by the end of the 2083/84 fiscal year.
Following this, the company expanded its service offerings and infrastructure plans. It launched a Postal SIM Service in partnership with the Department of Postal Services, allowing customers to order prepaid SIM cards online for doorstep delivery via Nepal Post. Additionally, Nepal Telecom issued a tender for a large-scale project to swap and expand 1,600 sites. This move follows a decision to shut down the 3G network in favor of enhancing 4G high-speed data and 2G services.
