Overview

In mid-August, the Philadelphia Phillies signed veteran 31-year-old left-handed pitcher Nestor Cortes to a Major League contract to provide depth for the rotation and bullpen. Cortes, a former New York Yankees All-Star, joined the team while recovering from left biceps tendon surgery.

Following a stint with Single-A Clearwater, the Phillies promoted Cortes to Triple-A Lehigh Valley in mid-September. Having been added to the 40-man roster upon signing, Cortes remains eligible for the postseason roster if selected by the organization.
