Netflix Australian series My Brilliant Career concludes first season
Netflix confirmed that its Netflix’s six‑part Australian adaptation of Miles Franklin’s 1901 novel *My Brilliant Career* will debut globally on Thursday 13 August 2026. The series, filmed in Adelaide and surrounding locations, is led by has concluded its first season. Starring Philippa Northeast as the fiercely independent Sybylla Melvyn. A full cast announcement on 6 August added Christopher Chung as Harry Beecham and supporting performers Anna Chancellor, Genevieve O’Reilly, Kate Mulvany, Jake Dunn, Alexander England and Sherry‑Lee Watson. Melvyn, the miniseries follows her struggle to pursue a professional writing career while defying early 20th-century societal pressures to marry. The season finale depicts Sybylla choosing her professional ambitions and self-love over a romantic relationship with Harry Beecham. While the ending suggests the character’s journey may continue, Netflix has not officially announced a second season. Although subsequent books exist following the character, the production is billed was developed as a fresh, proto‑feminist retelling for a new generation. Alongside complete adaptation of the series launch, Netflix introduced original novel, and there is currently no indication of further adaptations. In conjunction with the series, Netflix ANZ launched “The Next Brilliant Career” mentorship program, in partnership program. Partnering with the Australian Writers’ Guild and state screen agencies, to mentor the initiative provides emerging female and non‑binary writers, writers with applications feedback, mentorship, and the opportunity to pitch ideas to Netflix’s Sydney-based content team.
