The film utilizes archival footage, personal photos, and home videos to trace his professional journey, including his tenure as a ‘Weekend Update’ anchor on Saturday Night Live and his appearances on various late-night programs.
Narrated by Macdonald himself using archival clips and excerpts from his audiobook, ‘Based On a True Story’, the documentary highlights his unique comedic style, characterized by deadpan delivery, long-form stories, and abrupt punchlines.
