Netflix mobile and gaming ecosystem expansion

Overview

Netflix has announced a strategic expansion of its mobile experience and gaming ecosystem. During an innovation event in the Asia-Pacific region, the company unveiled a redesigned mobile interface featuring gesture-based navigation, immersive video previews, and a new recommendation algorithm, including an ‘Instant Stream’ feature to pre-load content.

Co-CEO Greg Peters stated a vision to integrate gaming as a primary vertical alongside film and television. The company is developing over 90 games through internal studios and partnerships. Currently, the catalog includes more than 80 titles available to all subscribers—including those on the ‘Standard with ads’ plan—without advertisements, microtransactions, or additional fees.

Available titles include major games such as Dead Cells, Into the Breach, and Oxenfree, as well as titles based on Netflix properties like Stranger Things, Squid Game, and Black Mirror. To enhance the ecosystem, the Netflix Game Controller app allows users to transform mobile devices into controllers for compatible smart TVs.
