Netflix release of science fiction series ‘In the Depths’

Overview

Netflix released a six-episode science fiction thriller miniseries titled ‘In the Depths’ (also referred to as ‘Profundezas’). Set in Snook’s Arm, Newfoundland, the story stars Josh Hartnett as fisherman Calvin Penney and Mackenzie Davis as marine zoologist Fonda Howander. The plot follows the characters as they investigate a mysterious threat in the ocean.

Following its release, the series gained popularity. While noted for its visual effects, some critiques suggested the pacing suffered in the middle of the series due to excessive subplots and underdeveloped characters. The marine creature featured in the production was inspired by real-world biology, specifically giant squids, with consultation from marine biologist Annie Mercier.
