New Hampshire Democratic Senate primary race

The Democratic primary race for the U.S. Senate seat being vacated by retiring Senator Jeanne Shaheen in New Hampshire has seen a tightening contest between Representative Chris Pappas and progressive challenger Karishma Manzur.

Polling from the University of New Hampshire Survey Center indicates that Pappas leads Manzur by 13 percentage points, with 47 percent support compared to Manzur’s 34 percent. This represents a significant shift from September, when Pappas held a 51-point lead. Manzur, a medical scientist and member of the Democratic Socialists of America, has gained momentum among younger and socialist voters through a grassroots campaign focused on economic inequality, universal healthcare, and ending war profiteering.

As the September 8 primary approaches, Kamala Harris has endorsed Pappas. In addition to Harris, Pappas has received support from various labor unions and abortion-rights organizations. Supporters suggest Pappas may be able to appeal to a broad coalition, including independents and Republicans.
