New Orleans Pelicans 2026-27 season preparations
Overview
The New Orleans Pelicans faced initial uncertainty regarding the 2026-27 NBA season, as players reported that the team did not appear on the official NBA schedule. Small forward Trey Murphy III noted that inquiries to Commissioner Adam Silver remained unanswered, while concerns arose regarding the availability of the Smoothie King Center due to various non-basketball bookings.
As the season approached, the franchise shifted focus toward establishing stability and competitiveness in the Western Conference. Under head coach Jamahl Mosley and executive Joe Dumars, the team aimed to rebuild its identity through defensive efficiency and player development. Roster changes included the acquisition of Bennedict Mathurin, while the team looked to integrate young talents alongside core players Zion Williamson, Trey Murphy III, and Dejounte Murray.
