Nigeria 2027 election preparations and proposals

Discussions regarding Nigeria’s 2027 elections have focused on electoral logistics, economic planning, and institutional integrity.

Abdussamad Dasuki, Deputy Minority Leader of the House of Representatives, advocated for the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to hold federal and state elections on a single day. He argued a unified schedule would prevent economic disruption, reduce government spending on logistics and security, and minimize travel risks for citizens. Dasuki also expressed concern that Section 63 (2) of the Electoral Act might jeopardize election integrity by allowing certain unmarked ballot papers to be counted.

Social Democratic Party (SDP) presidential candidate Adewole Adebayo has introduced an economic blueprint titled ‘Farewell to Poverty and Insecurity’, which proposes transitioning Nigeria to a production-driven economy through agricultural mechanization and import substitution. Regarding the electoral process, Adebayo emphasized the need for justice and strict legal adherence following the signing of the 2027 Electoral Peace Accord. He called for greater INEC independence and demanded political neutrality from security agencies during the election cycle.
