Nigeria 2027 election voter card distribution

Overview

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has commenced the nationwide distribution of Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs) for the 2027 general elections, reporting a national voter register exceeding 103 million people. While distribution has begun in cities such as Abuja, Lagos, and Ibadan, initial turnout has been reported as low.

In Taraba State, officials noted that 29,314 PVCs remain uncollected. Throughout the process, various political actors have raised concerns regarding electoral integrity. The PDP has accused the APC of planning to use thugs to steal cards in Ogun State, while in Benue State, the PDP warned of a fraudulent scheme where individuals allegedly use fake loan offers to collect voter details and photographs.

Other groups, including the Peter Obi Media Office, have cautioned citizens against surrendering their cards to unauthorized persons, citing concerns that economic hardship is being exploited for vote buying. Additionally, displaced residents in Kaduna State are seeking methods to reclaim voting rights lost during previous communal violence.
