Nigeria cooperative sector digital transformation

Overview

The Nigerian Federal Government has initiated a digital transformation project for the cooperative sector under the ‘Renewed Hope Cooperative Reform and Revamp Programme (RH-CRRP) 2030’. Through a Memorandum of Understanding between the Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security, the Cooperative Federation of Nigeria, and Seamfix Limited, the government is deploying the National Cooperative Identity, Trust and Digital Governance Infrastructure.

This infrastructure includes the National Cooperative Smart Registry (NCSR), which will issue Cooperative Verification Numbers (CVN) for organizations and Cooperative Member Identification Numbers (CoopID) for individuals. These measures aim to establish data infrastructure for a proposed Cooperative Bank of Nigeria. A six-month national revalidation and re-certification process has begun, requiring existing cooperatives to verify their registration records with State Departments of Cooperatives to be onboarded onto the new platform.
