On 4 August 2026 2026, the Nigerian Minister of Communications announced a 90,000‑kilometre fibre‑optic 90,000-kilometre fibre-optic rollout under the Project BRIDGE programme, targeting nationwide coverage and expanding the national backbone to about 120‑125 120-125 km by 2030. This project aims to promote local manufacturing and innovation by upskilling artisans to international standards. The NCC noted that its partnership with Enugu State is intended to position the region as a competitive destination for technology-enabled services and business process outsourcing.
