Overview

Nigeria is implementing various initiatives to expand its solar energy capacity and improve electricity access. To address the electricity needs of approximately 70 million people, there is an increasing focus on distributed solar power and decentralized renewable energy. The Distributed Access through Renewable Energy Scale Up (DARES) programme, supported by a $750 million World Bank facility, is providing capital subsidies to lower equipment costs for rural and low-income communities. This push for off-grid connections has seen significant growth, with industry reports indicating high monthly sales of solar units.
