Nigerian Christian Pilgrim Commission international travel
Overview
The Nigerian Christian Pilgrim Commission (NCPC) has taken steps to manage and expand international pilgrimage options for Nigerian Christians.
In early August, the NCPC lifted a ban on Christian pilgrimages to Israel that had been in place since February. Following a security assessment by Executive Secretary Bishop Stephen Adegbite, the commission determined the Holy Land was peaceful enough to allow travel via Ben Gurion International Airport, though routes through Jordan remained suspended. This decision restored both state-backed and private pilgrimage operations for 2026.
By the end of August, the NCPC began exploring new destinations to diversify pilgrimage routes. Bishop Adegbite conducted an exploratory visit to Hydra Island, Greece, to meet with local stakeholders and officials. This initiative aims to leverage Greece’s early Christian heritage to promote faith-based tourism and fulfill the commission’s mandate to identify sacred sites worldwide.
