Nigerian government recruitment fraud warnings
Overview
Nigerian government agencies have issued warnings to job seekers regarding recruitment fraud and application errors.
Initially, the Federal Character Commission (FCC) advised the public on seven common mistakes that could jeopardize federal public service applications, such as using unverified sources, paying intermediaries, or providing incorrect information. The FCC encouraged applicants to use its dedicated recruitment portal to verify vacancies.
Subsequently, the Federal Civil Service Commission (FCSC) expanded on these concerns, warning of scammers using mirrored websites and unauthorized messages on social media and WhatsApp. These fraudulent actors aim to harvest personal data, such as National Identification Numbers (NIN), or extort money through fake fees. The FCSC clarified that official vacancies for Grade Levels 07 to 17 are advertised through established procedures, including national newspapers and the commission’s official website, and emphasized that genuine recruitment is never conducted through private agents.
