Melaye warned that using the anti-graft agency to intimidate Atiku could lead to “massive civil unrest.” Atiku has dismissed the probe, noting that a Lagos State High Court previously set aside the original indictments in 2006, ruling them “unconstitutional and flawed.”

In response to Melaye’s criticism, Agbonayinma challenged the Senator to provide official EFCC decisions or court records to prove the allegations were dismissed. Agbonayinma maintained that the petition was intended for “public accountability rather than as a political vendetta” and asserted that no official should be exempt from lawful scrutiny.
