Nigerian security operations against crime and banditry
Overview
Nigerian security forces have intensified operations across several states to combat various forms of criminality, including drug trafficking, illegal mining, and banditry.
In early October, operations in Plateau, Kogi, and Benue states resulted in the arrest of 15 suspected drug peddlers in Jos North and 14 suspected illegal miners in Kogi State. In Benue, a joint task force repelled a bandit ambush on the Amaafu–Abaji Road, resulting in one suspected attacker being killed.
Following these ground operations, the Nigerian Air Force conducted air strikes in Benue State near the Enugu–Benue boundary. These missions provided close air support to ground troops to target kidnappers in dense forest areas. Officials noted that such insecurity in rural farming communities threatens local food security and the movement of goods.
