Nigerian youth political engagement and governance

Nigerian youth leaders and political stakeholders are increasingly advocating for greater youth engagement in governance and policy-making to address national socio-economic challenges.

At the first National Youth Conference, Eze-Onyebuchi Chukwu, Chairman of the Forum of National Youth Leaders of all Political Parties in Nigeria (FNYLPP), called for political unity and the conversion of ideas into measurable actions regarding unemployment and technology. He emphasized that youth must have a “meaningful seat at the table” in national decision-making.

This call for engagement expanded through the Elevating Youth Voices Virtual Summit, where creative professionals and activists discussed using digital platforms to influence political outcomes. During this period, leaders also highlighted the urgency of youth involvement due to high unemployment rates and population projections. In Kwara State, grassroots mobilization efforts focused on skill acquisition and technology to bridge the unemployment gap while supporting political candidates for upcoming elections.
