Nikita Mirzani legal proceedings
Overview
Nikita Mirzani successfully appealed a civil lawsuit in the Jakarta High Court. The appellate court overturned a prior ruling from the South Jakarta District Court that had ordered Mirzani and her assistant, Mail Syahputra, to pay billions of rupiah in damages to beauty doctor Reza Gladys and her husband, Attaubah Mufid.
Legal counsel Usman Lawara noted that the court found the claims of financial loss to be “unsupported by sufficient evidence.” As a result, the previous obligation to pay compensation was nullified, and the arguments from the opposing party’s reconventional lawsuit were dismissed.
Following the August 27, 2026, ruling, legal counsel for Reza Gladys suggested the dismissal of the counterclaim may have been due to formal procedural issues rather than the merits of the case. They noted a significant discrepancy in requested damages, which shifted from Rp857 million in the first instance to Rp500 billion during the appeal. The legal team characterized Mirzani’s claims of victory as merely “entertaining” rather than a full legal vindication.
On August 31, 2026, Reza Gladys’s counsel, Julianus Sembiring, further clarified the nature of the appellate outcome. Sembiring stated that the appeal succeeded only in canceling the previous ruling requiring Mirzani to pay approximately Rp800 million in damages, but did not grant Mirzani’s original lawsuit, which was explicitly rejected by the judges.
Additionally, Rieke Diah Pitaloka, a member of Commission XIII of the Indonesian House of Representatives (DPR RI), observed that this civil ruling could influence Mirzani’s ongoing criminal case review (Peninjauan Kembali). While a civil verdict does not automatically cancel criminal proceedings, Pitaloka emphasized that changes in civil legal constructions and facts regarding transactions, fund flows, and legal relationships remain relevant for judicial testing.
