Nilüfer Municipality development and zoning initiatives
In early August 2026, Nilüfer district officials announced an accelerated program to add roughly 24,000 sqm of new parkland across seven neighborhoods, aiming to increase net green space by about 13,000 sqm before year-end. The projects include modern play areas, seating, and a commemorative “Şehitler Park” slated for opening on Victory Day. A few days later, the municipality introduced a 3D digital land-use portal that upgrades its city-guide and zoning-inquiry services. The interactive map displays parcels, roads and buildings in three dimensions and features a “smart zoning advisor” that translates technical terms into plain language, intended to streamline access to planning data and support future urban development. By August 8, these digital efforts were supplemented by direct community engagement. Municipal management teams, including Deputy Mayors and department managers, began conducting field visits to neighborhoods such as Gökçe, Gölyazı, and Kayapa. During these visits, officials are meeting with neighborhood mukhtars to identify infrastructure and environmental needs on-site, aiming to ensure local issues are addressed through collaborative decision-making rather than solely from administrative offices. Together, these actions illustrate Nilüfer’s simultaneous focus on expanding public green spaces, modernising digital tools On August 26, Mayor Şadi Özdemir announced intentions to advance the Ekokent (Western Development Zone) zoning plans, which have been stalled for urban planning, and increasing direct field-based governance 18 months at the Bursa Metropolitan Municipality level.
