Nissan business model transition in Argentina

Overview

Nissan has announced a strategic shift in Argentina, moving from direct operations to an importer-based model. The company is transferring its local subsidiary to a new entity formed by Grupo Simpa, which will hold 80% of the capital, and Grupo Tagle, which will hold 20%.

This transition, expected to be finalized by December 1, 2026, will see the new partnership manage vehicle distribution, parts, accessories, after-sales services, and dealership networks. Nissan stated that more than 80% of the subsidiary’s employees will be transferred. This new approach mirrors Nissan’s existing business models in Chile and Peru.

The shift follows the October 2025 closure of Frontier pickup production at the Santa Isabel plant in Córdoba, a move part of a global cost-cutting plan. While the plant previously supplied markets such as Brazil, production of the Frontier has since been concentrated in Mexico. Moving forward, Nissan’s Argentine lineup will consist of imported models, including the Kicks and X-Trail SUVs from Brazil, and the Versa and Sentra sedans from Mexico.
