Nobres sanitation concession dispute

Overview

The Mato Grosso Court of Accounts (TCE-MT) intervened to address a long-standing impasse regarding water and sewage services in Nobres. The dispute involves Concession Contract No. 1/1998, which has been active for over 27 years.

The municipal government has sought to extend the contract to facilitate new investments and ensure economic-financial rebalancing. However, some city councilors oppose this extension, calling for the termination of the concession and a new bidding process.

Following a technical meeting between the TCE-MT President, local officials, and representatives from the Empresa de Saneamento de Nobres (ESAN), it was determined that no contract changes will be formalized until technical studies are completed. The process is being managed by the Permanent Commission of Norms, Jurisprudence, and Consensualism (CPNJur) in coordination with the Public Ministry of the State of Mato Grosso (MPMT).
