NOFIA S.A. financial restructuring and recovery

Overview

The Cameroonian microfinance institution NOFIA S.A. has officially exited provisional administration as of September 11, 2026. The administration, which was originally imposed by the Commission Bancaire de l'Afrique Centrale (COBAC) on September 5, 2025, was implemented to address critical weaknesses in governance, risk management, and financial stability.

Following the restructuring process, the institution reported significant financial recovery and recapitalization. Social capital increased from 1.2 billion FCFA to 8.2 billion FCFA, a move validated by COBAC that resulted in Cameroon Business and Trade (CBT) S.A. becoming the majority shareholder. Key financial indicators improved, including the 30-day risk portfolio (PAR30) dropping from 32.39% to less than 4%.

A new leadership structure has been established, with Clément Kemayou serving as Chairman of the Board of Directors and Bogni Ngueya, the former provisional administrator, appointed as Director General. NOFIA S.A. has expressed intentions to become one of the top five microfinance institutions in Cameroon and aims to transform into a full-service bank in the medium term.
