In late July 2026, North Macedonia began a series of health‑sector upgrades. The Idadia Polyclinic in Skopje started a 31‑million‑denar reconstruction focused on energy‑efficiency measures such as thermal insulation, modern heating, LED lighting and upgraded electrical systems, under a programme run by the Ministry of Finance with World Bank and Western Balkans Investment Framework support. A few days later, the government announced a much larger €183 million commitment to two regional hospitals: €74 million to modernise the Clinical Hospital in Tetovo and €109 million to complete a new Clinical Hospital in Štip. The projects aim to expand diagnostic, treatment and emergency capacities, lessen patient referrals to the capital, and improve working conditions for staff and students. Both initiatives were presented with World Bank involvement, signalling a continuing push to modernise the country's public health facilities. The €183 million funding was formally approved on 30 July, with Health Minister Sasho Klekovski, Health Insurance Fund director Zlatko Perinski, Štip mayor Ivan Jordanov and a World Bank delegation reviewing technical and financial details. The following day, the Clinical Hospital Bitola launched a 30.4 million‑denar equipment programme, replacing outdated devices and adding advanced orthopaedic, ophthalmic, urological and imaging tools, while also hiring 61 permanent staff to boost regional diagnostic capacity. The Bitola upgrade includes a new pathology‑department digestor, electric orthopaedic burr, phaco‑cataract surgery system, ophthalmic echo unit, monopolar urology resection set, colonoscope, gastroscope, optical‑coherence‑tomography scanner, DEXA machine, a surgical robot and PACS‑linked software. It also introduces echo‑guided prostate biopsy, the first use of this method at the hospital, and is expected to markedly improve diagnostic and operative services for patients in Bitola and surrounding areas.
