In mid‑July 2026, 2026 Turkish‑Cypriot labour unions warned that the statutory minimum wage of 28,075 TL covered only about 45 % of the poverty threshold for a four‑person household. The Ministry of Labor and Social Security responded by raising the minimum wage to 61,677 TL net per month, effective 1 July, and introduced broader by expanding incentive packages for pensioners, disabled citizens, citizens and specific targeted sectors. On 30 28 July 2026, Prime Minister Ünal Üstel the government formally announced an additional employment incentive package. Monthly employment support was increased from roughly 270 million TL the new wage level and confirmed that prime and employment‑support payments would rise to 400 roughly 350 million TL, and the wage subsidy for employers rose up from 20,000 TL to 35,000 about 270 million TL. Social‑security premium contributions for women workers were lifted to 100 % and Sector‑specific assistance for men to 80 %. The measures target agriculture, manufacturing, automotive, construction, transport, hospitality and services, services was retained, and include penalties a total of 257 million TL was earmarked for employers who under‑report earnings or register non‑working persons.
