Overview

In mid‑July 2026 Turkish‑Cypriot labour unions warned that the statutory minimum wage of 28,075 TL covered only about 45 % of the poverty threshold for a four‑person household. The Ministry of Labor and Social Security responded by raising the minimum wage to 61,677 TL net per month, effective 1 July, and by expanding incentive packages for pensioners, disabled citizens and targeted sectors.

On 28 July the government formally announced the new wage level and confirmed that prime and employment‑support payments would rise to roughly 350 million TL, up from about 270 million TL. Sector‑specific assistance for agriculture, manufacturing, automotive, construction, transport, hospitality and services was retained, and a total of 257 million TL was earmarked for disabled citizens.

Union leaders continued to stress that the revised wage remains far below the cost of living. A public‑servants union reported that a four‑person household would need 244,818 TL per month to stay above the poverty line, while the net minimum wage stays at 61,677 TL. The unions criticised the use of an outdated consumer‑price‑index basket and called for a “fair and livable” minimum wage that fully covers food, housing, health and education.
