Norwegian government personnel restructuring

Norwegian Prime Minister Jonas Gahr Støre has initiated a series of personnel changes within his administration.

In August 2026, the Prime Minister’s Office underwent a communications restructuring. Kristoffer Thoner stepped down as State Secretary and press spokesperson after nearly four years. He was succeeded by Per Anders Torvik Langerød, who took on the role of State Secretary, and Bhanuja Rasiah, who assumed overall responsibility for communication work.

Following the funeral of King Harald, Prime Minister Støre implemented a significant cabinet reshuffle during the first Council of State with King Haakon VIII. This move finalized the departures of several high-profile ministers, including Karianne Tung (Digitalization and Governance), Jon-Ivar Nygård (Transport), and Andreas Bjelland Eriksen (Climate and Environment).

The new appointments are as follows:

• Torgeir Micaelsen replaces Karianne Tung as Minister of Digitalization and Governance. • Kamzy Gunaratnam replaces Jon-Ivar Nygård as Minister of Transport. • Sigrun Aasland replaces Andreas Bjelland Eriksen as Minister of Climate and Environment. • Eileen Fugelsnes replaces Sigrun Aasland as Minister of Research and Higher Education.
