Nottingham University Hospitals medical record breaches
Overview
The Nottingham University Hospitals (NUH) NHS Trust has dismissed 15 staff members, including doctors and nurses, for inappropriately accessing the medical records of victims from the June 2023 Nottingham attacks.
In addition to the dismissals, the trust issued 15 final written warnings and two first written warnings. Medical director Dr. Manjeet Shehmar stated there is ‘simply no excuse’ for such unauthorized access. The trust has notified the Information Commissioner’s Office, Nottinghamshire Police, and relevant medical regulators. To prevent future incidents, NUH is testing a new data protection system and has launched a staff education campaign regarding privacy violations.
