Nvidia GeForce driver technical issues

Overview

Nvidia confirmed a bug in its GeForce Game Ready Driver version 621.01, which was released to support Microsoft’s Advanced Shader Delivery. Users reported video freezes in web browsers and VLC Media Player, as well as black screens lasting several seconds. These issues primarily affected RTX 5080 owners, though the RTX 4090 was also impacted. Technical logs indicated GPU timeout and recovery events.

Nvidia subsequently released a hotfix driver, version 621.12, to resolve these issues. This update specifically targeted GeForce RTX 50 series GPUs and RTX Spark systems to fix video playback freezes and black screens. The hotfix also addressed crashes in Unreal Engine 5.8, image corruption on certain RTX Spark systems, and screen flickering on MSI N16 Flip notebooks.
