Nvidia RTX 50-series power connector safety measures
Overview
Following the release of an open-source utility called ‘12VHPWR Guard’ by a Reddit user, efforts to manage power connector safety for high-end Nvidia RTX 50-series graphics cards have expanded to official software.
The initial open-source tool was designed specifically for selected ASUS ROG Astral models to monitor per-pin current via telemetry and trigger an automatic Windows shutdown if current exceeds 9.5 A for more than 15 seconds.
Subsequently, ASUS released an update for its GPU Tweak III software featuring ‘Power Detector+’ technology. This official update aims to enhance safety for cards using the 12V-2x6 connector by monitoring electrical current in real-time and automatically shutting down the PC if unsafe levels are detected.
