OBS Studio version 33 release cycle

Overview

The OBS Project transitioned from the release candidate phase for version 33.0 to the full software release. The initial release candidate followed six beta testing phases and introduced a structural overhaul of the plugin loading process, moving first-party plugins to a new ‘Core’ folder.

The final release of OBS Studio 33 included an upgrade of the Chromium Embedded Framework to version 150 and added support for the latest NVIDIA Broadcast SDKs, enabling AI-driven audio and video features for RTX hardware users. Technical updates also included enabling the NVIDIA NVENC encoder on Arm64 systems and implementing proactive encoder validation checks.

While the new plugin architecture was established with revised directory structures for both built-in and third-party plugins, legacy locations were maintained with the expectation that compatibility will end with version 34.0. Additional refinements addressed source snapping, numerical input fields, and specific Linux stability issues regarding USB microphones and PipeWire.
