The Ohio gubernatorial race between Republican Vivek Ramaswamy and Democrat Amy Acton is marked by significant financial disparities and scrutiny over campaign practices.

Early reports focused on Ramaswamy facing investigations into his campaign finances and personal rhetoric. Specifically, watchdog groups raised concerns regarding approximately $690,000 spent on private jet travel, with $560,000 paid to a company registered to a residence owned by Ramaswamy. Additionally, his claims regarding his parents’ naturalization process to support a proposed civics test for voters were challenged by reports indicating his father did not undergo such a test.

By late August, the campaign landscape showed a massive fundraising gap. Billionaire Jeffrey Yass contributed at least $30 million to the super PAC V-PAC to support Ramaswamy, surpassing Amy Acton’s total reported fundraising of approximately $21.8 million. Ramaswamy’s campaign has also engaged in heavy spending for advertisements, with roughly $82.3 million spent or reserved, while pro-Acton spending is projected to be significantly lower at approximately $11.1 million. Polling suggests that political attacks against Acton have been effective, as negative views of her rose from 37% in June to 47% in mid-August.
