The Okinawa gubernatorial election concluded on 13 September 2026, with newcomer Genta Koja defeating incumbent Denny Tamaki. Koja, a 42-year-old former deputy mayor of Naha, secured 423,124 votes (approximately 59.42%), winning by a margin of roughly 147,000 votes. Supported by a coalition including the Liberal Democratic Party (LDP), Komeito, Nippon Ishin no Kai, and the Democratic Party for the People, his win marks the first time the LDP has reclaimed the prefectural government in 12 years.
