Omnicom Group restructuring following IPG acquisition

Overview

Following its acquisition of Interpublic Group (IPG) in late 2025, Omnicom Group is undergoing a major organizational transformation. The company is shifting from a traditional holding company model toward an ‘operating system’ approach that utilizes shared platforms, data, and artificial intelligence to integrate its agency networks.

This restructuring involves significant consolidation of agency brands. FCB has merged into BBDO, while DDB and MullenLowe U.S. have been integrated into the TBWA system, leaving BBDO, McCann, and TBWA as the group’s three primary global creative networks. Additionally, the company has sold Jack Morton to Impact XM and rebranded MullenLowe Group Sri Lanka to BBDO Sri Lanka.

The integration is driving substantial workforce reductions. Leadership expects the headcount to drop from approximately 120,000 at the end of 2025 to roughly 105,000 by the end of 2026. These cuts are attributed to the elimination of redundant roles, offshoring, and the removal of duplicate corporate costs.

Financially, Omnicom has doubled its cost synergy target to $1.5 billion, aiming to realize $900 million of that in 2026. While the acquisition has increased total revenue, the complexity of merging structures has introduced restructuring costs and margin pressures that are impacting short-term profit development.
