Online fraud and money laundering in Vietnam

Overview

Authorities in Vietnam have been actively intervening in various online scam operations. In late October 2026, police in Nghe An and Tuyen Quang provinces successfully collaborated with Agribank to prevent citizens from losing hundreds of millions of VND to impersonation scams and fraudulent investment schemes.

Following these incidents, Da Nang police dismantled a significant money laundering network linked to online fraud. The investigation, which involved approximately 700 billion VND, revealed that perpetrators used deceptive websites promising commissions on luxury goods and ‘wrong COD payment’ lures to steal identities and account access. To conceal the stolen funds, suspects transferred money through numerous bank accounts before converting it into USDT via cryptocurrency exchanges to move it into private digital wallets.
