The Organization of Providencial Benefits and Social Solidarity (OPEKA) manages various Greek social welfare programs, including housing allowances, disability benefits, and the Minimum Guaranteed Income. For the August 31, 2026, disbursement cycle, OPEKA distributed approximately 180.87 million euros to 570,792 beneficiaries. OPEKA has opened application periods for several programs, including an annual income support program for families in mountainous or disadvantaged regions. To qualify, applicants must have resided in these areas for at least two consecutive years, include at least one Greek citizen, and have an annual family income not exceeding €4,700. Support is tiered: €600 annually for incomes up to €3,000 and €300 for incomes between €3,000.01 and €4,700. Applications are accepted via the gov.gr portal, the OPEKA platform, or Citizens' Service Centers (KEP) until October 30, 2026. A provisional housing allowance is also available for households in rented accommodation. Approved benefits are valid for six months, after which a renewal application is required. Regarding student support, OPEKA has opened applications for a scholarship program providing 1,000 euros to 106 successful candidates of the 2026 Panhellenic Examinations. To qualify, applicants must be direct or indirect OPEKA beneficiaries, have held student status during the 2025-2026 school year, be unmarried, and be unemployed. Applications must be submitted via the OPEKA platform by October 15, 2026. If applications exceed the available spots, recipients will be chosen via an electronic lottery. In the child benefit (A21) program, OPEKA is issuing has issued a supplementary payment of approximately 7.67 million 7,671,724.02 euros to 49,545 recipients. beneficiaries as of October 9, 2026, following a computerized verification process. This brings the total for the fourth installment to 78,256,511.17 euros. For 2026, OPEKA reports 623,255 total applications, with 494,788 approved (covering 852,024 children) and 124,155 rejected.
