The Karls Erlebnis-Dorf leisure park opened at Centro Oberhausen on 22 July 2026. To mark the opening, the park featured a display of more than 18,000 empty coffee mugs in its 6,000-square-metre main hall. Managing director Robert Dahl stated the display was intended to defend the world record for the greatest number of coffee mugs displayed, surpassing a previous record of 14,000 mugs held in Rostock in 2009. Following Owned by the Dahl family, the business originated from a small agricultural operation founded by Karl Dahl in 1921. The concept combines strawberry farming and manufacturing with leisure activities, gastronomy, and retail, expanding from its roots in Mecklenburg to multiple locations across Germany. Since its opening, the park has become a major attraction for families in the Ruhr region. The high volume of visitors has resulted in significant crowds, leading some parents to use social media to suggest visiting during weekdays or outside of school holidays to avoid long queues. While access to the grounds, markets, and playgrounds is free, visitors are required to purchase tickets or day passes for rides and indoor attractions. To avoid higher costs or long queues, visitors are advised to purchase day passes online in advance. The high volume of visitors has led to significant crowds and long wait times. On social media, specifically via the Instagram channel ‘hayamontour’, parents have shared warnings regarding the intense crowds during peak periods. To avoid the exhaustion caused by long waits, particularly for families with small children, visitors have suggested traveling during the week or outside of school holidays.
