OpenLight silicon photonics platform development
Overview
OpenLight has expanded its photonic integrated circuit (PIC) development through technical integrations and global industry engagement.
Initially, OpenLight integrated its Process Design Kit (PDK) into Cadence electronic design automation tools to support Tower Semiconductor’s PH18DA indium phosphide-on-silicon photonics platform. This collaboration aims to streamline the creation of PICs by allowing designers to use familiar environments to integrate active components like lasers and modulators for AI infrastructure and optical interconnects. During this period, OpenLight also secured $50 million in Series A-1 funding.
Following these developments, OpenLight announced plans to showcase its heterogeneous indium phosphide-on-silicon platform at four major global industry events in September, including TGS China, CIOE, ECOC, and Microelectronics UK. The company continues to promote its technology as a means to reduce power consumption and complexity for cloud data centers, telecommunications, and optical computing.
