On 10 August 2026, the ORF Foundation Board approved the leadership team proposed by incoming Director-General Clemens Pig. Following the approval, Peter Westenthaler, an ORF Foundation Board member representing the FPÖ, filed a popular complaint with the media authority KommAustria against the appointment of Clemens Pig. Supported by 360 license fee payers, the 43-page complaint alleges the process violated the European Media Freedom Act by failing to ensure a transparent and non-discriminatory procedure. The complaint specifically notes that Pig lacks the required radio or television experience, citing his background with the Austria video platform instead. Westenthaler characterized the appointment as a ‘politically negotiated composition’ and indicated that further complaints regarding the 13 ORF directors are planned. On 11 August 2026, deputy chairman Gregor Schütze resigned from the ORF Foundation Council to focus on professional business interests. His departure follows scrutiny regarding potential conflicts of interest involving council members and the PR industry.
