Ho Chi Minh City Police dismantled an organ trafficking ring following an investigation that began in July 2026. The operation resulted in the prosecution of 11 defendants, including primary organizers Phạm Đỗ Đăng Khoa, Phạm Thị Mỹ Hà, and Cao Thị Dự.
The criminal group targeted individuals in difficult economic circumstances and those requiring kidney transplants. By utilizing social media groups dedicated to organ donation, the ring connected buyers and sellers, charging between 1.4 billion and 1.5 billion VND per transplant case. The organizers maximized profits by negotiating lower prices with sellers and pocketing the difference. Brokers earned up to 50 million VND per transaction, while others received 10 million VND for assisting with medical examinations and paperwork. To evade detection, participants were instructed to provide false information to medical staff regarding their motives and relationships.
