Osaka mall retail expansion

Overview

In July 2026 JR West’s commercial‑facility arm JR West SC Development launched a multi‑year renewal of the LUCUA Osaka complex. The three‑tower shopping centre will be upgraded in phases through 2028, beginning in the fall with 19 new retailers—including OMMO, South‑Korean label Matin Kim, and local brands—aimed at reaching FY2025 targets of ¥110.3 billion revenue and 88 million visitors.

At the same time, Osaka saw new flagship openings to boost its retail profile ahead of the 2025 World Expo. The select shop akinai Osaka opened on 28 July in KITTE Osaka, showcasing about 800 regional specialties. The following month, Korean fashion brand Martin Kim opened its first permanent Kansai outlet on the sixth floor of Lucca Osaka, offering Osaka‑exclusive designs and a tiered‑gift programme. Both moves are part of broader tourism and commercial initiatives to increase the city’s shopping appeal.
