The Osmangazi Municipality in Bursa continues its local initiatives involving infrastructure, trade discussions, and cultural events. In early September, the municipality opened a new market area in the Emek Adnan Menderes neighborhood, featuring 62 vendor stalls. Mayor Erkan Aydın indicated that future developments for the site may include a parking lot and a children’s park, while officials monitor whether a roof is necessary to protect shoppers from weather conditions. Additionally, a 3,000-square-meter covered market area in the Demirtaş Sakarya neighborhood has been completed and is expected to be operational by the end of the month. To commemorate the 700th anniversary of the conquest of Bursa, the municipality has organized several events, including a national photography competition and a trade panel at the Panorama 1326 Bursa Conquest Museum. The photography competition, held in collaboration with the Bursa Cinema and Photography Art Association (BURFOD), drew 142 photographers and resulted in 71 award-winning works. A trade panel titled ‘From the Grand Bazaar to Industry: Bursa's Trade and Production Journey’ examined the region's evolution from traditional commerce to a modern industrial ecosystem. Cultural programming has expanded with the 2nd Osmangazi Book Days, a nine-day festival featuring prominent authors such as Ahmet Ümit and Gani Müjde. The municipality also declared 2026 the ‘Year of Orhan Kemal’ to honor the author's connection to the city. Further literary events include a program exploring the works of Yahya Kemal Beyatlı at the Seyyid Usul Cultural Center. In the Ovaakça Çeşmebaşı neighborhood, the municipality inaugurated several new facilities, including a service building the Eyüp Kutlucan Service Building, the Bayram Kutlucan Family Health Center, and a family health center. the Emir Özalp Children's Park. The municipality also continues its outreach to students via the ‘Your New City, Your New Story’ project at Bursa Uludağ University, promoting municipal services like free libraries and cultural events. Recent infrastructure efforts led by BUSKİ include the installation of drinking water, sewage, and rainwater lines, alongside road renewal projects in the Selçukgazi, Dağakça, and Bağlı neighborhoods. These works have sparked political debate in the Panayır neighborhood regarding stream reclamation and transportation access. While local critics have questioned the lack of exit routes in certain areas, AK Party Osmangazi District Chairman Adnan Kurtuluş defended the projects, noting that stream reclamation requires meticulous engineering and is being overseen by municipal officials.
