Osubi Airport administrative and security developments

Overview

Following a viral video showing an alleged altercation between an aviation security officer and a female passenger at Osubi Airport in Delta State, the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) launched an investigation. FAAN Managing Director Olubunmi Kuku directed the probe, stating that any breach of professional standards would result in disciplinary action.

In a separate development regarding the facility, Nigeria’s Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo, requested that the International Air Transport Association (IATA) change the airport’s three-letter location code. The Minister argued the current code, QRW, is associated with the broader Warri identity and does not accurately reflect the airport’s physical location in Osubi. Proposed alternatives include OSU, OSB, SUB, and QSB.
