Pakistan-Africa Economic Council trade initiatives
Overview
The Pakistan-Africa Economic Council (PAEC) was launched in Islamabad to strengthen commercial and investment ties between Pakistan and African nations. The initiative seeks to increase bilateral trade to $15 billion by 2030 by transitioning from traditional diplomacy toward private-sector partnerships in sectors such as agriculture, IT, pharmaceuticals, and textiles.
To facilitate this, the council planned a three-month agenda involving delegations to countries including Rwanda and Ethiopia. The scope of the council has since expanded to include a potential trilateral cooperation framework involving China. This framework aims to integrate China’s industrial and technological capabilities with the resources and market potential of Pakistan and Africa, focusing on building economic ecosystems and human capital.
