Pakistan artificial intelligence development initiatives
Overview
Pakistan is expanding its artificial intelligence capabilities through large-scale competitions, government-led training, and sector-specific workshops.
In late October 2026, the Alibaba Cloud AI Hackathon concluded in Islamabad, featuring 300 projects focused on areas such as healthcare, agriculture, and financial inclusion. Concurrently, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif announced a 15-day training program for IT graduates and directed the integration of AI into public services, including petroleum supply chain monitoring and cancer diagnosis.
Further specialized efforts emerged shortly after, including the ‘100 Women Learning AI’ initiative by Islamabad.ai, which provides automation training for female project managers. Additionally, NIBAF Pakistan scheduled an executive workshop in Karachi focused on AI governance and risk management within the banking sector.
