The National Cyber Crime Investigation Agency (NCCIA) in Lahore has launched an inquiry into Pakistan cricketers Mohammad Rizwan and Imam-ul-Haq regarding alleged leaks of confidential dressing room information during the team’s Test series against England. The investigation involves forensic analysis of mobile phones previously seized by the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) and a scrutiny of the players’ financial transactions and bank records. The probe follows a period of instability for the national squad, which included a 3-0 Test series loss in England, the dismissal of head coach Sarfaraz Ahmed and bowling coach Umar Gul, and the removal of seven players from the squad. Mohammad Rizwan has stated he is cooperating with the investigation. Meanwhile, former players Wasim Akram and Shahid Afridi have commented on the situation, describing the current state of the sport as “disappointing and gloomy.” In a recent development, Mohammad Rizwan has filed a writ petition in the Lahore High Court to challenge the NCCIA summons and question the agency’s jurisdiction. Rizwan has requested clarification regarding the reasons for his questioning and why his mobile phone has not been returned. While Imam-ul-Haq has reportedly submitted responses through an intermediary, the investigation continues at the NCCIA headquarters in Islamabad. Parallel to the criminal inquiry, the PCB is conducting its own internal disciplinary investigation into conduct and discipline. The board has handed over the players' devices for forensic analysis and intends to determine its next course of action once the NCCIA submits its findings.
