Pakistan cricket team struggles in England Test series

The Pakistan cricket team has faced intense scrutiny during its Test series against England. Following a heavy defeat at Headingley, former England captain Nasser Hussain criticized the squad for lacking the “unpredictability and fighting spirit” that once defined them, stating, “They don’t fight back anymore.”

As the series progressed to the Edgbaston Test, criticism shifted toward the Pakistan Cricket Board’s selection processes. Hussain labeled the inclusion of Saim Ayub—who was called up directly from the Caribbean Premier League without recent first-class experience—as a “lack of respect for Test cricket.” Hussain described the move as a “disrespect and disregard for Test Match Cricket,” noting the difficulty of transitioning to English conditions and the Dukes ball without adequate preparation. Ayub struggled during the match, recording a pair of ducks after being dismissed by Ollie Robinson in both innings.

Following the Lord’s Test, the team underwent significant upheaval. The PCB made seven changes to the squad, including the debuts of Gazi Ghory, Rajullah, and Mohammad Imran. This period also saw the dismissal of head coach Sarfaraz Ahmed and bowling coach Umar Gul. Despite these changes, Pakistan struggled at Edgbaston, falling to a 320-run deficit after being bowled out for 133 in their first innings.
