Regional tensions in the Middle East have escalated due to maritime disruptions, energy infrastructure attacks, and intensified conflict in Yemen. Saudi Arabia has temporarily suspended operations on its 1,200-kilometer East-West oil pipeline following drone strikes in the Riyadh and Medina regions, which officials reported were launched from Iraqi territory. In Yemen, Houthi militants have executed a rapid military offensive along the Red Sea coast, seizing control of the strategic port city of Mocha and several key islands, including Mayun (Perim) and Zuqar. While a ceasefire was announced on April 8 and the ‘Islamabad Memorandum of Understanding’ was signed on June 18 by leaders from the US, Iran, and Pakistan, tensions resurfaced following strikes in July. In September 2026, Minister Naqvi met with Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian and Interior Minister Eskandar Momeni in Tehran to discuss regional stability and strengthening bilateral ties. Naqvi noted that relations have reached an ‘unprecedented high,’ with discussions focusing on expanding cooperation in trade, energy, and science. Both nations set a goal to increase bilateral trade from $3 billion to $10 billion and agreed to keep the mid-border route operational 24 hours a day. Additionally, Qatar is reportedly working with Pakistan to facilitate dialogue between Iran and the United States to resolve regional tensions.
