Pakistan Ministry of Foreign Affairs corruption scandal

An internal inquiry within Pakistan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs uncovered an alleged illegal network that collected approximately Rs12 billion from citizens over one year. The report, led by Dr. Ahmed Ali Sarohi, described the operation as a “mafia” that charged up to Rs800,000 for document attestation through unauthorized channels. The investigation implicated high-ranking officials, including directors general and former diplomats, though reports indicated the findings were not forwarded to the National Accountability Bureau.

Following these findings, the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) in Islamabad dismantled a fraudulent network involved in producing fake apostille stickers and forged official stamps. The operation targeted consultancy and courier offices, implicating 22 suspects. Among those identified were 16 individuals from various private entities and six Ministry of Foreign Affairs officials allegedly linked to the scheme. Investigators believe the network collected large sums by promising expedited services, with a portion of the funds reportedly used as bribes for ministry officials.
